Ray wasn't thinking clearly. He found boot prints all around leading to tire prints in the mud. The truck had turned around and headed back towards Jackson. Ray only knew to keep walking and he did. He walked picking up signs of the truck until he reached I-40. Did they go east or west? Ray flipped a coin. He walked east. He passed people heading west who had seen a military style truck. It had passed about two hours ago. He walked until well past dark. The mild weather was friend and foe. It allowed Ray to track the kidnappers, It also allowed them to get away. How did they know how to find his house, one of the few that remained and so far north of the interstate? What were their plans for his daughters? He didn't think about it. He dozed leaning against a car. After a brief sleep, Ray moved on, well before the sun came up. He could travel fast on his own and in the cool of the dark.
